Application Process for a Sponsorship Visa in Australia

Applying for a sponsorship visa in Australia requires gathering essential documents and obtaining a sponsorship statement from your employer. The process demands careful attention to detail and compliance with immigration regulations.

Collecting Essential Documents

Before you can apply for a sponsorship visa in Australia, you need to gather several important documents. Make sure everything is prepared before you begin the application process.

Passport Photos: Ensure you have recent, clear photos showing your face.

Personal Identification: Collect copies of your passport, birth certificate, or ID card.

Job Offer Letter: Provide proof that an Australian employer has offered you a job.

Resume or CV: List your work experience and skills.

Qualifications: Gather your diplomas, certificates, or any educational proof.

Work References: Obtain letters from previous employers attesting to your work ethic.

English Language Test Results: If required, demonstrate your English proficiency.

Health Insurance: Check if it’s needed and secure appropriate coverage.

Police Checks: You may need to show you have no significant criminal record.

Obtaining a Sponsorship Statement

A key component of the sponsorship visa application is the sponsorship statement from your employer. This declaration is crucial to the process.

Find an Employer: Locate an employer willing to sponsor you and support your move to Australia.

Labor Market Testing: Your employer must prove they cannot find an Australian citizen or resident to fill the position.

Complete Necessary Forms: Ensure your employer completes all required forms indicating their intent to sponsor you.

No Payment for Sponsorship: Your sponsor should not ask you for money related to sponsorship or nomination costs.

Statement of Support: The employer must write a statement explaining why they are choosing you for the role and how your skills match the job requirements.

Special Programs: Check if your occupation is part of special programs like the Construction Visa Subsidy program, as different rules may apply.

Types of Employer-Sponsored Australian Visas

Australia offers several employer-sponsored visas, including the Temporary Skilled Shortage (TSS) visa, Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) visa, and Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa. Each visa has unique eligibility requirements and benefits for skilled workers.

Temporary Skilled Shortage (TSS) Visa

The TSS visa is designed for skilled workers to fill positions that cannot be filled locally. It allows you to live and work in Australia for up to five years, but you must stay with the employer who sponsored you. This visa is a great opportunity if your skills are in demand.

Employer Nominated Scheme (ENS) Visa

The ENS visa offers a pathway to permanent residency for skilled workers. If an Australian employer needs your skills and cannot find a local candidate, they can nominate you for this visa. It allows you to live and work in Australia permanently, making it a long-term option for skilled workers.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) Visa

The RSMS visa enables skilled workers to move to regional Australia. If an employer in a regional area nominates you, you could receive a visa to live and work there permanently. Note that changes were made to this scheme on May 13, 2022, closing the Temporary Residence stream to new applicants. The process involves three steps: your employer must obtain sponsorship from the ACT government, nominate a suitable job, and you must lodge your visa application.
